I heard Benicio Del Toro on Howard Stern this morning plugging is new move The Wolfman. As a kid my favorite Universal monster was by far The Wolfman. He was bad ass with no equal. Loved the original Lon Cheney Jr. classic, and soaked up anything that had a Wolfman/Werewolf in it. In my childhood mind, the Wolfman had to stand upright, crouching in that menacing way, snarling and terrifying. Tons of modern depictions always had the werewolf literally turning into a wolf running around on all fours like in An American Werewolf in London. Don’t get me wrong, love that movie, but the one true Wolfman is the classic.

I am extremely excited about this movie. The previews I have seen so far have stirred up those long lost fears and fascination i had as a child. Rick Bakers make-up looks like it not only created a terrifying figure, but also pays homage to the original. Del Toro explained it took 4 hours everyday to get made up as the menacing figure. All the early reviews i have heard have had nothing but praise for the film and for Del Toro’s turn as the iconic Larry Talbot. I will be seeing this movie this weekend and give my thoughts soon there after. Now i just need to find a date.
